IPTV FAQ: Your Questions Answered
Straight answers about IPTV NZ: how it works, payment, devices, setup, streaming quality and support — plus the question we’re asked most, whether IPTV is legal in NZ. Can’t see your question? Message us on WhatsApp.
Getting started
New to IPTV? These answers cover how it works and what you need before you order.
How does IPTV work?
IPTV (internet protocol television) sends TV channels as data streams over your broadband connection, the same way video sites and streaming apps do. A player app on your TV, box or phone connects to our servers with your login, downloads the channel list and TV guide, and plays whichever channel you choose. There’s no aerial, dish or cable box involved.
What do I need to start watching?
- A broadband connection — fibre is ideal, but fixed wireless, 4G/5G home broadband and satellite broadband can work too.
- A compatible device: Smart TV, streaming stick, Android TV box, phone, tablet, computer or MAG box.
- A player app (we recommend one for your device).
- Your IPTV NZ login, which we send on WhatsApp.
What’s included in every plan?
Every plan includes 35,000+ live TV channels; New Zealand, Australian, UK and international channels; 140,000+ movies and series on demand; PPV events and premium sports; 4K, Full HD and HD streams; anti-freeze servers; 99.9% uptime; a full TV guide with catch-up; Xtream Codes, M3U and MAG support; instant activation; 24/7 support; and built-in privacy protection.
Can I use IPTV NZ when I travel?
In most cases, yes. The service streams over the internet, so it can work wherever you have a reliable connection — handy on holiday or a work trip. Hotel and public Wi-Fi can be slow or restrictive, so expect lower quality on weak connections.
How many devices can I use?
Each plan includes one connection — one stream playing at a time. You can install the app on as many of your devices as you like and watch on whichever is free. Want two or more screens playing at once? Ask us on WhatsApp about multi-connection options.
Plans & payment
Every plan includes the full service, so choosing is really about how long you want to watch. Prices are in US dollars, with an approximate NZ$ figure shown on our pricing page.
Why are prices in US dollars?
Our plans are billed in US dollars, so we show USD prices with an approximate NZ$ figure underneath for reference. Your bank converts the payment at its own exchange rate on the day, which is why the final NZ$ amount on your statement can differ slightly. Some banks also add a foreign-currency fee — check with yours if you’re unsure.
Which plan is the best value?
The 12-month plan. It costs US$85, which works out at US$7.08 a month and saves US$155 compared with paying monthly. Every plan includes exactly the same channels and features. Compare all plans.
Does my plan renew automatically?
No. Plans are paid up front for a fixed length, and nothing renews without you asking. When your plan is coming to an end, message us on WhatsApp to renew on the plan length you want.
Can I switch to a longer plan later?
Yes. Many people start with a short plan to see how it suits their household, then choose a longer plan when they renew to get a lower monthly price. Just tell us which plan you’d like when you message us to renew.
Do you offer refunds?
If something isn’t working, our 24/7 support team will work to fix it. If we can’t resolve a genuine problem with the service, contact us and we’ll agree a fair remedy, in line with our terms. Nothing in our terms limits your rights under New Zealand consumer law.
Setup & devices
IPTV NZ works on Smart TVs, streaming sticks, Android TV boxes, phones, tablets, computers and MAG boxes. For full instructions, see how to set up IPTV.
Do I need technical skills to set it up?
Not at all. If you can install an app and copy a username and password, you can set up IPTV. We send step-by-step instructions for your exact device on WhatsApp, and our setup guide walks through every device type.
Which app should I use?
It depends on your device. Look for an IPTV player that supports Xtream Codes logins, an on-screen TV guide and catch-up. Tell us your device on WhatsApp and we’ll recommend a player that works well on it.
What’s the difference between Xtream Codes, M3U and MAG?
They’re three ways of logging in. Xtream Codes uses a server address, username and password and loads everything automatically. M3U is a single playlist link. MAG uses a portal address linked to your box. Read M3U vs Xtream Codes vs MAG explained for the full comparison.
Can I use IPTV on a Smart TV without a box?
Often, yes. Many Smart TVs have an IPTV player in their app store. Older TVs, or TVs with limited app stores, work best with an inexpensive streaming stick or Android TV box plugged into an HDMI port. See IPTV box NZ for options.
Do I need a separate VPN?
No. Privacy protection is built into the service, so you don’t need to buy or install a separate VPN. If you already use a VPN for other reasons, it will usually work alongside the service, but connecting to a distant VPN server can slow streams down.
Streaming quality
Picture quality depends on three things: the stream itself, your internet connection and your device. Here’s how to get the best from all three.
Why is my stream buffering?
The most common causes are weak Wi-Fi, an internet connection that’s busy with other downloads, an underpowered streaming device, or app settings. Restart your device and router, try an Ethernet cable, and close other streaming apps. Our guide to IPTV buffering causes and fixes covers every step.
Is 4K available on every channel?
No. 4K is available on selected channels and events. Most channels stream in Full HD or HD. To watch in 4K you need a 4K TV, a 4K-capable device and a stable connection of around 25 Mbps or more.
Does the TV guide show New Zealand times?
The TV guide follows your device’s time zone. If programme times look a few hours out, check that your device is set to New Zealand time (it changes for daylight saving) or adjust the guide offset in your player’s settings. Learn how EPG and catch-up work.
Can I watch over Wi-Fi?
Yes. For the best results, connect to your router’s 5 GHz network, keep the device within a room or two of the router, and use a mesh system or extender in larger homes. A wired Ethernet connection is the most reliable option for 4K and live sport.
Legal & privacy
We’re asked about the law more than anything else, so here’s a neutral, factual summary. It’s general information to help you understand the topic, not legal advice.
Is IPTV legal in NZ?
IPTV is a delivery technology, not a type of content. Sending TV over an internet connection is legal in New Zealand, and it’s how many mainstream broadcasters and streaming services deliver their own channels and apps.
Whether a particular IPTV service is lawful depends on the content it carries and whether the provider has the right to distribute it. Copyright in New Zealand is governed by the Copyright Act 1994, which gives copyright owners control over who may communicate their work to the public. Advertising and selling services is also covered by the Fair Trading Act 1986, and consumer purchases by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
If you’re showing TV in a bar, gym, shop or other business, separate commercial licensing rules apply — our plans are for personal, at-home use. This answer is general information, not legal advice. If you need certainty about your own situation, speak to a New Zealand lawyer.
What personal information do you collect?
Only what we need to run your subscription: your name and WhatsApp number, the plan you buy and its dates, and any device details you share for setup (such as a MAG box’s MAC address). Our privacy policy explains how we use and protect it.
Is paying safe?
We send secure payment options on WhatsApp when you order. As a general rule, never type a full card number, banking password or PIN into any chat message — with us or anyone else. If something about a payment request ever looks unusual, ask us before paying.
Support
Our team is on WhatsApp 24/7. These answers explain how to get help quickly.
How do I contact support?
Message us on WhatsApp at +44 7576 966392, any time of day or night. You’ll be chatting with a real person who can help with setup, playback problems, renewals or anything else. See our contact page for tips on getting help fast.
What should I include when I message support?
Tell us your device, the player app you’re using, the channel or title with the problem and what you see on screen. A photo or screenshot of any error message helps us fix things faster.
What happens when my subscription ends?
Channels and on-demand content stop playing at the end of your plan. Message us on WhatsApp to renew and we’ll reactivate your access — usually without needing to set up your device again.
